Guanajuato has been our home for four weeks and in this video we're going to share exactly how

much we spent so you know if you can afford this place or not and as you can see we're

going to start with groceries. So this is the main supermarket in historic Guanajuato and we come here about once a week

and it's awesome. We have everything we need. These are going to coffee. Like seven dollars, last for over a week

About a pound of ground beef, 90-10, five bucks. You can get all your fruit and veggies here, however there are two things that we don't buy

in the supermarket and that is the first one fruit and veggies because we have Anabasto close to us

which is the smaller fruit and veggie shop and tortillas because we have the nicest tortilla

lady right next to our apartment so we get the tortillas from her. So if you see tortillas

fresh tortillas, don't get those in the supermarket. Get them fresh from the tortilla

usually. Poor guy, he couldn't also pay enough. A six pack of modelo is like seven dollars but

my favorite Mexican beer is Bohemia Pilsner. It's like eight bucks, a little bit more expensive

but worth it. The red bottle. Chicken breast, about four dollars a pound, great deal. Cheetos with hot sauce, a match made in heaven

If you do get tired of Mexican food, they do have a small international section

For us, we have been very grateful for this section but it is a little bit more expensive

So there are two things to keep in mind when shopping here. One is definitely bring your

reusable bags because they don't have plastic bags here and also you can pay with credit card

but bring some small change because the person that packs the bags for you, they appreciate a

little bit of a tip. That's very nice to do that. So in general, I think it's very affordable to do

groceries here. In the whole month we spend $574, so like $140 a week. Pretty good, cheaper than the US

So right across the street more or less from the supermarket is the local market

You can also shop for your I guess fruits and vegetables and even meat here. The people here

are very honest and very kind so don't be afraid to shop here. The prices aren't really listed but

again people are super honest. Also they have hot meals here and now we're going for a torta

with garnitas. If you want to eat even cheaper than shopping at the grocery store and cooking

for yourself, just come here. I think this is like 40 pesos which is three bucks, not even three

dollars. So this is slow roasted pork, garnitas, loaded up with the hot sauces and you have a great little lunch

lunch first. Good luck with that huh? Yeah. So if you're coming to Guanajuato from the U.S. the best option is to fly into the Leon Guanajuato

airport which is about 30 minutes away and then from there you're gonna take a taxi

for 35 dollars. It's super easy. We did notice that there is no uber. They're not allowed inside

the airport so the best option is to just take one of the official airport taxis and it's great

and then when you're in the city you don't need a car. You can basically walk everywhere. Maybe

uber here and there because there is uber in the city. We've only spent three dollars and 50 cents

in transportation in one month because we have been walking everywhere. So you're gonna save

some money there. There's local buses, taxis and uber so you have options

So if you love coffee as much as we do then you'll be happy to know that there are a ton of cafes all

around Guanajuato and they even have a Starbucks. However we do recommend supporting smaller business

when you're traveling. Also for the digital nomads out there a lot of the cafes are pretty

spacious and they have decent wi-fi so if you want to work from the cafe you can absolutely do so

Obviously this one is not really one of those types of cafes but they have good coffee and has

some cool vibes. The reason we don't work from cafes is we have an Airbnb. Let's show you that next

Welcome to our beautiful home in Guanajuato. Let's start with the living room area. As you can see it's very comfortable. There's a giant couch

that we also use as the dining table while we watch tv. There's a desk where we try to relax

and color, read, look out the window because we have the most beautiful view. And this way we have

the official dining table that I use as my desk. Here we have all of our goals for the month and

this way we have a very comfortable kitchen. It really has everything we need. We have been

so comfortable in this apartment. There's one thing that has been really funny

is the forks because when you eat sometimes that's how much we laugh every time. It's pretty funny. We cook here almost every single night and we do appreciate

having this awesome kitchen because we love home-cooked meals. I love cooking. We've been

cooking a lot of traditional stuff too which is super fun. And this way we have two bedrooms. This

is the one where we put all of our junk. This is the one that we sleep in. We also have two bathrooms

so yes it has been really comfortable and one thing about this place we booked it through Airbnb

and this has never happened to us before but they have a weekly cleaning service so whenever

everyone says they come clean change the sheets give us new towels for free so that's pretty crazy

there's one bad thing about this place so we have to be honest is that it is January so in the

evenings it gets pretty cold at least for us so we just have the space heaters with us everywhere

in every room like we just bring them with us 24 7 yeah pretty much but besides for that this place

has been really good to us the wi-fi works great we have been able to upload our videos with no

issues we also have that cleaning that I mentioned every week included

the location is great we walk to town in less than five minutes all that for

area we discovered it wasn't he there's a ton of dogs in Guanajuato and a lot of them have sweaters

and they're so cute but this one's a sweetie pie they roam the streets you got a little haircut

in Mexico the last couple years this place is incredible however there are some things that

you do need to know that are a little bit different than in the U.S. so we're gonna let you know what

those things are basically so the first one is water you do have to get water you cannot drink

water from the tap and we spent a total of 25 dollars for four weeks of drinking water you

want to explain the process yeah so the the thing you do is like drink out these giant jugs called

garrafones and there's different ways to pick them up so the stores will have them like the

convenience store but also just like little tienditas it's 50 pesos wherever you do buy it

there's twice a week the guys would come outside our building and if it worked out in terms of

timing then we would get it from them but you have to give the empty one back to get a full one for

exactly but we could have also done it through our airbnb but we never did because we had water

close to us exactly and it was a little bit uncomfortable to put in the other one so there

was like a little pump that you put on top oh yeah and have one so it could have been a disaster it

was never too bad but it's very heavy just yeah finger it's pretty strong thank you

which brings us to the gym next point gym for the gym we sign up for i think the cheapest gym

in town it was like a 12 minute walk from our place so it was convenient um it's kind of a

strange setting the layout was weird i think it was the nicest and biggest gym in town oh yeah well

anyways it wasn't too expensive it was uh 25 for the both of us for a whole month and

it's a bargain that's a great deal another thing that you have to know about if you're staying here for an extended period of time is laundry of course ideally you would want an airbnb

that has a washing machine typically they don't have dryers uh but a washing machine is obviously

nice to have we didn't have one and if you do not have one don't worry because there are a

zillion lavanderias which are wash and folds we'll put that word here you have to look up

lavanderia on google and then you'll find one that's there you that has good reviews so easy

do go to the one with the good reviews otherwise you'll progressively lose socks and underwear so

go to a good one but it's very affordable they charge per kilo they wash and fold everything

for you and sometimes they give it back the same day or the next day and we went three times

and we spent a total of 41 yeah and i think that's a little bit on the high side because we

have a lot of like sweatpants and hoodies because it is a little bit chilly yeah but if you come in

another season then it's super cheap yeah then we have a couple of other expenses so we pay for

our phone plans in the us which is probably more expensive than it would be to buy a sim card here

we don't know how much sim cards are we're gonna ask and we'll put that amount here on the screen

but for us it's 145 for both of our cell phones yeah and t-mobile they have a plan that allows

you to use data in mexico and many other countries yeah in most countries that way um then we have travel insurance safety wing 90 for both of us per month um and then we have

really know that well because my mom is from venezuela and she speaks beautiful spanish i speak

pretty good spanish so we always speak to the locals in spanish um but it feels in general

that they speak a little bit less than like more touristy places like the yucatan peninsula like

cancun in that area yeah but it's not like an issue they speak enough and you know it's just

good to practice your spanish we have a lot of useful phrases and words that you probably don't

find someone that doesn't speak english people here are so nice like i just can't get over how

so there are a ton of really nice restaurants here in guanajuato so we did end up eating out

more than we expected to or had planned to thankfully it's pretty affordable so going out

one or two times per week we ended up spending like 340 for the entire month and just for some

context we went to one of the nicer restaurants and paid about 50 for two entrees and an appetizer

no drinks and like a standard but good restaurant you can pay like 25 for an excellent meal

pretty affordable so we felt okay eating out and again just look at these tacos i think this

is like eight dollars for the plate and they're good how much we spent on drinks is included in the food total but we still wanted to come to a rooftop

bar to show you guys because guanajuato has the coolest rooftop bars with great cocktails

and for you to have an idea a beer and one of these cost between three and four dollars

domestic beers like the traditional ones and cocktails cost between eight to ten dollars
