0:00
Guanajuato has been our home for four weeks and in this video we're going to share exactly how
0:04
much we spent so you know if you can afford this place or not and as you can see we're
0:09
going to start with groceries. So this is the main supermarket in historic Guanajuato and we come here about once a week
0:29
and it's awesome. We have everything we need. These are going to coffee. Like seven dollars, last for over a week
0:54
About a pound of ground beef, 90-10, five bucks. You can get all your fruit and veggies here, however there are two things that we don't buy
1:07
in the supermarket and that is the first one fruit and veggies because we have Anabasto close to us
1:11
which is the smaller fruit and veggie shop and tortillas because we have the nicest tortilla
1:17
lady right next to our apartment so we get the tortillas from her. So if you see tortillas
1:21
fresh tortillas, don't get those in the supermarket. Get them fresh from the tortilla
1:26
usually. Poor guy, he couldn't also pay enough. A six pack of modelo is like seven dollars but
1:31
my favorite Mexican beer is Bohemia Pilsner. It's like eight bucks, a little bit more expensive
1:43
but worth it. The red bottle. Chicken breast, about four dollars a pound, great deal. Cheetos with hot sauce, a match made in heaven
2:08
If you do get tired of Mexican food, they do have a small international section
2:11
For us, we have been very grateful for this section but it is a little bit more expensive
2:15
So there are two things to keep in mind when shopping here. One is definitely bring your
2:19
reusable bags because they don't have plastic bags here and also you can pay with credit card
2:24
but bring some small change because the person that packs the bags for you, they appreciate a
2:27
little bit of a tip. That's very nice to do that. So in general, I think it's very affordable to do
2:32
groceries here. In the whole month we spend $574, so like $140 a week. Pretty good, cheaper than the US
2:54
So right across the street more or less from the supermarket is the local market
3:08
You can also shop for your I guess fruits and vegetables and even meat here. The people here
3:13
are very honest and very kind so don't be afraid to shop here. The prices aren't really listed but
3:18
again people are super honest. Also they have hot meals here and now we're going for a torta
3:23
with garnitas. If you want to eat even cheaper than shopping at the grocery store and cooking
3:28
for yourself, just come here. I think this is like 40 pesos which is three bucks, not even three
3:32
dollars. So this is slow roasted pork, garnitas, loaded up with the hot sauces and you have a great little lunch
3:43
Bombs away. Saladita y nopal. We recommend this place. The bread is so good. Everything's so good. I'm gonna get two
3:57
And look at what I got. A giant order of five tacos or four dollars more or less
4:03
And we'll show you restaurants too. You're gonna be shocked with the prices here. There are so many
4:08
nice restaurants. The food has been so good. We'll show you that in a little bit. We need to have
4:13
lunch first. Good luck with that huh? Yeah. So if you're coming to Guanajuato from the U.S. the best option is to fly into the Leon Guanajuato
4:35
airport which is about 30 minutes away and then from there you're gonna take a taxi
4:40
for 35 dollars. It's super easy. We did notice that there is no uber. They're not allowed inside
4:45
the airport so the best option is to just take one of the official airport taxis and it's great
4:49
and then when you're in the city you don't need a car. You can basically walk everywhere. Maybe
4:55
uber here and there because there is uber in the city. We've only spent three dollars and 50 cents
5:01
in transportation in one month because we have been walking everywhere. So you're gonna save
5:05
some money there. There's local buses, taxis and uber so you have options
5:22
So if you love coffee as much as we do then you'll be happy to know that there are a ton of cafes all
5:27
around Guanajuato and they even have a Starbucks. However we do recommend supporting smaller business
5:31
when you're traveling. Also for the digital nomads out there a lot of the cafes are pretty
5:35
spacious and they have decent wi-fi so if you want to work from the cafe you can absolutely do so
5:40
Obviously this one is not really one of those types of cafes but they have good coffee and has
5:44
some cool vibes. The reason we don't work from cafes is we have an Airbnb. Let's show you that next
5:55
Welcome to our beautiful home in Guanajuato. Let's start with the living room area. As you can see it's very comfortable. There's a giant couch
6:03
that we also use as the dining table while we watch tv. There's a desk where we try to relax
6:09
and color, read, look out the window because we have the most beautiful view. And this way we have
6:16
the official dining table that I use as my desk. Here we have all of our goals for the month and
6:22
this way we have a very comfortable kitchen. It really has everything we need. We have been
6:29
so comfortable in this apartment. There's one thing that has been really funny
6:35
is the forks because when you eat sometimes that's how much we laugh every time. It's pretty funny. We cook here almost every single night and we do appreciate
6:51
having this awesome kitchen because we love home-cooked meals. I love cooking. We've been
6:57
cooking a lot of traditional stuff too which is super fun. And this way we have two bedrooms. This
7:04
is the one where we put all of our junk. This is the one that we sleep in. We also have two bathrooms
7:09
so yes it has been really comfortable and one thing about this place we booked it through Airbnb
7:14
and this has never happened to us before but they have a weekly cleaning service so whenever
7:19
everyone says they come clean change the sheets give us new towels for free so that's pretty crazy
7:26
there's one bad thing about this place so we have to be honest is that it is January so in the
7:31
evenings it gets pretty cold at least for us so we just have the space heaters with us everywhere
7:39
in every room like we just bring them with us 24 7 yeah pretty much but besides for that this place
7:46
has been really good to us the wi-fi works great we have been able to upload our videos with no
7:51
issues we also have that cleaning that I mentioned every week included
7:55
the location is great we walk to town in less than five minutes all that for
8:02
792 dollars for 28 nights which we thought was a pretty good deal considering everything that
8:09
includes like utilities everything we don't have to worry about anything and this place is going
8:13
to be linked in a pdf that we have in the description that you guys can download and it has
8:18
like very detailed list of all of our expenses things to do in Guanajuato and a bunch of like I
8:24
think useful travel tips and you can download it for free in the description now we're gonna go
8:28
back outside to talk about miscellaneous restaurants as we mentioned because we spend a little bit too
8:34
much in restaurants but it has been worth it let's go outside this is our favorite neighborhood pub
8:43
and it looks like he just got a haircut he's distracted because there's other dogs in the
8:47
area we discovered it wasn't he there's a ton of dogs in Guanajuato and a lot of them have sweaters
8:52
and they're so cute but this one's a sweetie pie they roam the streets you got a little haircut
9:00
you're so sweet that's the second time this pub is in the video so if you're thinking about coming to Guanajuato for an extended period of time
9:18
we cannot say this enough we love it you are going to love it right the city is amazing I think I can
9:25
confidently say it's in my top two or three in all of Mexico and we've spent like eight or nine months
9:29
in Mexico the last couple years this place is incredible however there are some things that
9:34
you do need to know that are a little bit different than in the U.S. so we're gonna let you know what
9:39
those things are basically so the first one is water you do have to get water you cannot drink
9:45
water from the tap and we spent a total of 25 dollars for four weeks of drinking water you
9:52
want to explain the process yeah so the the thing you do is like drink out these giant jugs called
9:56
garrafones and there's different ways to pick them up so the stores will have them like the
10:02
convenience store but also just like little tienditas it's 50 pesos wherever you do buy it
10:08
there's twice a week the guys would come outside our building and if it worked out in terms of
10:11
timing then we would get it from them but you have to give the empty one back to get a full one for
10:16
exactly but we could have also done it through our airbnb but we never did because we had water
10:21
close to us exactly and it was a little bit uncomfortable to put in the other one so there
10:26
was like a little pump that you put on top oh yeah and have one so it could have been a disaster it
10:31
was never too bad but it's very heavy just yeah finger it's pretty strong thank you
10:40
which brings us to the gym next point gym for the gym we sign up for i think the cheapest gym
10:48
in town it was like a 12 minute walk from our place so it was convenient um it's kind of a
10:54
strange setting the layout was weird i think it was the nicest and biggest gym in town oh yeah well
11:00
anyways it wasn't too expensive it was uh 25 for the both of us for a whole month and
11:07
it's a bargain that's a great deal another thing that you have to know about if you're staying here for an extended period of time is laundry of course ideally you would want an airbnb
11:15
that has a washing machine typically they don't have dryers uh but a washing machine is obviously
11:19
nice to have we didn't have one and if you do not have one don't worry because there are a
11:24
zillion lavanderias which are wash and folds we'll put that word here you have to look up
11:29
lavanderia on google and then you'll find one that's there you that has good reviews so easy
11:34
do go to the one with the good reviews otherwise you'll progressively lose socks and underwear so
11:37
go to a good one but it's very affordable they charge per kilo they wash and fold everything
11:43
for you and sometimes they give it back the same day or the next day and we went three times
11:48
and we spent a total of 41 yeah and i think that's a little bit on the high side because we
11:53
have a lot of like sweatpants and hoodies because it is a little bit chilly yeah but if you come in
11:57
another season then it's super cheap yeah then we have a couple of other expenses so we pay for
12:02
our phone plans in the us which is probably more expensive than it would be to buy a sim card here
12:09
we don't know how much sim cards are we're gonna ask and we'll put that amount here on the screen
12:13
but for us it's 145 for both of our cell phones yeah and t-mobile they have a plan that allows
12:19
you to use data in mexico and many other countries yeah in most countries that way um then we have travel insurance safety wing 90 for both of us per month um and then we have
12:31
activities pigeons we have activities we spend a total of 99 and activities so like all the
12:37
activities here are pretty affordable um we have all the details of everything we did the pdf that
12:43
we mentioned earlier so if you want more details that's going to be there so another thing that we
12:48
have our business expenses we don't know how interested you guys are in our business expenses
12:52
but we do have two websites uh this youtube channel and also a newsletter and if you're a
12:56
digital no man and are interested in how much this costs for us and like what platforms we use and we
13:00
will include that in the free pdf that you can download all the details and another thing oh
13:06
before i forget hold on the miscellaneous total is 425 again for four weeks and that does not
13:14
include our business expenses so it's not too bad and this is more related to life in guanajuato a
13:20
lot of people are just curious about how easy it is to get around with no spanish skills we don't
13:25
really know that well because my mom is from venezuela and she speaks beautiful spanish i speak
13:30
pretty good spanish so we always speak to the locals in spanish um but it feels in general
13:34
that they speak a little bit less than like more touristy places like the yucatan peninsula like
13:37
cancun in that area yeah but it's not like an issue they speak enough and you know it's just
13:42
good to practice your spanish we have a lot of useful phrases and words that you probably don't
13:48
know you need but you will need them so we have all that again in the pdf we really just want you
13:53
to have the best time here and again it's for free and also like if you don't speak if you
13:58
find someone that doesn't speak english people here are so nice like i just can't get over how
14:05
nice and generally good people are so you will be fine like they're gonna help you no matter i think
14:11
they're the sweetest people that we've met in mexico like genuinely they are so that is a bold
14:16
statement because like people here in mexico in general are so nice but here is just like
14:21
another level of hospitality is it's been amazing we love these people along those lines it's super
14:27
safe very sick you have nothing to worry about i hate like talking about that in every mexico video
14:32
but honestly you have nothing to worry about and now there's one more thing that we have
14:38
to share with you but that's gonna be way more interesting somewhere else let's go
14:52
look at this beautiful spot and these gorgeous tacos i'm in heaven
15:02
so there are a ton of really nice restaurants here in guanajuato so we did end up eating out
15:06
more than we expected to or had planned to thankfully it's pretty affordable so going out
15:11
one or two times per week we ended up spending like 340 for the entire month and just for some
15:17
context we went to one of the nicer restaurants and paid about 50 for two entrees and an appetizer
15:23
no drinks and like a standard but good restaurant you can pay like 25 for an excellent meal
15:29
pretty affordable so we felt okay eating out and again just look at these tacos i think this
15:36
is like eight dollars for the plate and they're good how much we spent on drinks is included in the food total but we still wanted to come to a rooftop
15:55
bar to show you guys because guanajuato has the coolest rooftop bars with great cocktails
16:00
and for you to have an idea a beer and one of these cost between three and four dollars
16:04
domestic beers like the traditional ones and cocktails cost between eight to ten dollars
16:09
the crafted ones and they're really nice and we have gorgeous views from this one
16:15
so to summarize everything guanajuato is a great city and if you're thinking about coming here
16:20
and you have questions please leave them in the comments we're always happy to help
16:24
remember the pdf that we mentioned earlier is going to make your trip so much easier and it's
16:28
free it has all of our favorite spots after spending four weeks here in guanajuato and two
16:34
more things before we share the total check the description also for this we have a travel
16:38
hiking newsletter where we teach you with no bs the easy way how to travel for cheap the easy way
16:44
and if you're a girl and you're interested in travel styling i also have my packing list and
16:48
my travel styling tips link in the description and we spent a total of two thousand one hundred
16:54
and fifty three dollars for four weeks here in guanajuato and we had a great time i'm gonna put
17:00
a screen here with all the expenses so you guys can take note of everything and since you're there
17:07
please watch another video we are gonna put another one of our mexico videos here on the
17:11
screen so watch that one next thank you so much for watching and we will see you next week bye
