Hi, my name is IMATA, this is my husband Gordon, and we are ways of the world
0:05
We like to take things slow when we travel. So in September last year, we went on a 90-day adventure throughout Turkey
0:11
where we had the best time of our lives. Traveling slowly helps us explore less visited sites and connect with the country's culture and people
0:21
And after visiting almost every corner of Turkey, we wanted to explore somewhere closer to home
0:26
That brought us to Mexico, where we are currently spending seven. 70 days discovering the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula
0:33
Our first stop is the Caribbean island of Kossumel. We chose this place because it offers everything we love
0:40
We rented our scooter for the first time ever. Really. That's how the turns are going
0:59
are going. And after getting to know the island on day one, we quickly understood why so many people fall in love with Kosumel
1:07
You know, Spanish? Yeah. Yeah, English Spanish. You can't worry. Great start
1:16
I really love it. I really love it. One time I went on a plane
1:27
driving it or piloting for the first time and now we're doing this
1:39
I'm looking around for some arrow We made it to Playa Corona and from what we've read a lot of the beaches here, there's semi-private, so you have to, you don't have to pay a fee to enter, but you have to consume a minimum at restaurants, so we're
2:26
this beautiful beach we have to consume $10 each and we get to spend the whole day here pretty
2:33
much and you can snorkel you can leak your stuff on the table and they take care of it so your
2:37
stop is safe um i'm sure there's free beaches somewhere but we're starting with this one
2:44
this is her first day exploring ocean safe it's not much of this ocean safe sunscreen
2:57
Continue to search for turtles. You ever found them in Turkey? They're supposed to be out here
3:01
Maybe they're here. Maybe they're here. An octopus. This is amazing. I feel like I'm in a fish tank, don't you
3:47
Yeah, the water is so clear. The coral is so healthy, there's so many fish
3:53
And this is exactly why we came here. We love being in the water. We love
3:58
nature we love the ocean and that's why we picked cosumel for two weeks and I mean today
4:04
is only the first day that we're snorkeling and it's not disappointing let's show you more
4:10
let's spend the whole day here if I could So we didn't see the elusive turtle, but no exaggeration
5:08
This was probably the best snorkeling that I've seen in my life. And it's just like directly from shore, six feet of water, and it's full of life, full of color
5:17
There's tons of soft coral and also like a ton of tropical fishes, like angel fish, butterfly
5:22
fish, parrotfish. I'm the aspiring fish nerd, so trying to learn all the tropical fish, but absolutely amazing
5:28
out there I hope we get to come back at some point we spent like also too much time in the water until it got too cold and we had to get out but now we'll probably just grab lunch here and change our plans a little bit but like a corona absolutely amazing
5:42
okay see grazeste Sweet. Like my wheels? Yeah. You ready to try dessert again
6:23
Yeah. Second time's a time. Next spot? Next spot? Next spot? the San Gervisio Archaeological site
6:32
The biggest mine ruin in Kuzumel. Turnp out we cannot leave. We cannot turn on the bike
6:43
We have gas, right? Something happened. Oh, yes. That part's hard. Ready
7:31
plans, it turns out online it says that San Jervasio, San Antonio, the closest at 5
7:37
The Mayan ruins. But it closes at 2.45. But we asked the guy that rented us the scooter too and you said 5
7:44
He said 5. But I guess, at 5 you have to leave last entrance before 2.25
7:51
That's what she said? I would think so. Now what? Turns out we were super close to our apartment and we have been chatting and doing our
8:01
research and we decided that we're going to go back into the town center and show you around a little bit
8:07
We're probably going to have a drink for sunset and for dinner we're going to go to a local taco
8:13
restaurant that we saw the other day and it's always packed and we're dying to try it
8:18
So let's go. That's how the turns are going
9:09
Cozumel is one of the most popular cruise ship destinations in the entire Caribbean
9:39
definitely tell our host who is from Cozumel said there's a boat at the dock every
9:44
single day of the year and we believe them it gets pretty busy and this like main
9:48
strip right on the seaside is like for like a mile like packed with different bars
9:53
and restaurants definitely catered for tourists but it's still pretty cool for the most part
9:57
you also see like the hooters and senior frogs and margaritaville so that is part of it
10:02
but once you step like just three blocks away from this main street it becomes
10:06
very local so it's pretty cool there's like taco shops and I don't know, just people like live in their daily life
10:11
So it's like an interesting mix of a town. You have some like very juicy parts and then some very local parts too too
10:17
So we like it here. We're very happy here. I'm for sunset and a drink
10:33
We very happy here Bear with us I don know how this video is going video is going we haven touched the camera in a long time But we were just saying that this place feels so much like home to me at least like I grew up in the Caribbean
10:48
He speaks Spanish everywhere here. I can communicate with everyone easily and it's awesome
10:53
Also people told that the margaritas like they tried to like scam you and when we learn is that if you ask how they make them
11:00
So if you ask like oh do you make them with like real lime or do you use the mix? They'll say they'll use real lime
11:06
lime and they'll use real lime. Our greatest have been really good. Cheers
11:11
Cheers to our first day of exploring Kozunel. milk. I just ordered a bunch of tacos
11:23
There's so many different things that I've, like, never heard of
11:41
So I was like, what's that? What's that? I ended up ordering taco a rechera, which is beef's stomach
11:50
I don't know why I said, yeah. He said it was the best one. So I ordered one
11:55
And then one cheek, gachete, beef cheek. And then the rest is just beef and pork
12:02
It should be good. This is like my kind of place, 100%. And I'm so happy that I'm here
12:07
I feel like home, which sounds weird. This is nothing like home
12:14
He is Hispanic at heart. Because I lived in Guatemala twice, and this is a little bit like that
12:20
So it feels very, like, nostalgic. What do you have there? This is the Arachera
12:28
This is, well, supposed to be stomach, but it looks like meat
12:32
And this is Sessina. Sissina. Which is steak, I guess. Alacheta is the most expensive
12:44
This is like the premium taco of the house. That's what the guy recommended, so
12:51
It is really good. It is really nice thick
13:04
Very like beefy and grilled. The onion spices. We're going to end the video here
13:19
We hope you liked it. We're a little bit rusty, but it was so fun
13:24
I cannot believe this was for first day in coastal and it was so special, so fun
13:30
We already love it here so much and honestly I don't know what to expect from the next seven
13:37
days that we have or 68 days now that we have in the area but I think it's going to blow our minds
13:43
Like today was incredible even though things didn't go as planned but it was still awesome and we're
13:49
ending the night in Tacos. We cannot wait to show you more of the Yucatan Peninsula for the next
13:57
new videos and also, also thank you so much for watching and we'll see you next time
14:02
Bye. We're about to go in the water, in the dark, with an expert who's going to show us the best beach to go night snorkeling in Cozumel
