After over four weeks here in Portugal, it's finally time for us to show you around Lisbon
0:22
We have been hanging around town for a few days already and this is actually the second time that we're here in Lisbon
0:27
we decided that for this video we're going to do things a little bit differently yeah so there are
0:31
a ton of lisbon videos out there and most of them focus on the beautiful historic center but we
0:35
decided that the world might want to see something a little bit different so the first thing that we're going to do today is something that you wouldn't expect to see in a lisbon video
0:43
so we're at this place called quake experience and it's exactly what it sounds like
0:48
we're going to experience a simulated earthquake which is really crazy and you may be wondering why
0:53
well in 1755 portugal was hit by a really devastating earthquake and tsunami and it
0:58
really changed the course of history for portugal and for the rest of europe so we thought this
1:02
would be an interesting first stop and i'm so nervous because one of my biggest fears in the
1:06
world is earthquakes so let's see it looks like we're the only adults without children
1:16
which is great because i feel like a kid today i'm so excited
1:23
Getting so nervous. Never experienced an earthquake before from Florida. It's going to be weird. Yes
1:31
How are you doing, Zia? The big one destroyed everything. Buildings, of course, but also the treasures
1:42
the city and its people had accumulated. We're in a time machine
1:51
That's cool. Yeah. It's gonna trip you. We made it to Lisbon in 1755
2:02
This is so cool, even the floors that caught fish on the walls
2:18
Great vibes, 1755. This is the aftermath
2:59
Everything's on fire. There's smoke everywhere. You have to watch out for the tsunami though
3:08
We have great news We survived the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 2022 But seriously guys you guys have to check out this place It such a fun and interactive way to learn about such an important event that shaped the history of Lisbon Portugal and a lot of places in Europe
3:23
Some of the most interesting things that we learned. One is that this marked the beginning of urban planning
3:28
So it made people understand that they needed to prepare for disaster. so they plan like architecture design everything and it inspired other places in the world to do
3:35
the same which is amazing and because this happened on november 1st which is all saints day everyone
3:40
was at church but in the catholic community they couldn't understand why god sent such a horrible
3:45
tragedy on that specific day so it really made them think about like science and nature and
3:49
understand everything so they started like integrating more of that stuff into their
3:53
buildings which was super interesting definitely check this place out quake is in the beautiful
3:59
Belém neighborhood which is kind of far from the city center but definitely worth checking out
4:03
there's a car coming there are a lot of beautiful green spaces, waterfront restaurants, there's a lot
4:08
of good vibes here in this neighborhood we really like it some of the places that you can check out
4:13
are the Belém tower, the beautiful San Jerónimo monastery and of course the famous Pastejo de Belém
4:19
Pastejo! which we put sure in a video check out my taste test see where I ranked it we are not
4:25
allowed in Portugal anymore. So like a terminal walk from Belém towards the city center, there's this place called
4:44
LX Factory and it is a really cool area. So this was like an industrial area in the 1800s
4:50
and then it was abandoned but then a few years ago it was developed to like spruce up like this part
4:54
of the city so now it's full with like bars and restaurants and cool shops and it's a really cool
4:59
place to just sit down have a drink coffee Thank you
5:40
So we're done exploring one side of the city and now we're heading to our most famous part of the city
5:44
and the best way to get there of course we had to do one of our iconic trends
5:48
which are super touristy but if you go early in the morning
5:52
Let go so much fun we actually took one of those trams in Porto but that ride lasted like 30 seconds and this one was like 15 minutes
6:29
So we took it from the neighborhood of Lapa, which is outside of the city center
6:33
And I think that's key to enjoy this ride because not only it was like less busy, but it took like 15 minutes
6:39
So you actually like it to look outside and it's like so fun to look out the window and see like all the beautiful tiles and buildings and all the stops
6:46
And it's not only fun, it's also very useful because we're now in Lisbon's historic city center
7:16
We are now in Plaza do Comercio in the famous Baia district
7:25
This place is beautiful, it's like right on the Tegas River, but because of that, when the earthquake hit in 1755 and the incoming tsunami came, this was one of the areas that
7:32
was like mostly wiped out, like all the buildings were destroyed. They obviously rebuilt it in a very beautiful way
7:37
It's very grand and there's like grand avenues like running from here. It's like one of the central areas in all of Lisbon
7:42
It also gets like pretty hectic. So the other day we saw like three cruise ships like right on the dock next to us
7:47
So there are a lot of people in this area. You'll definitely have to come here. It's like incredible just like walking around
7:51
the little streets and see what's happening here in Lisbon. It's the perfect starting point to visit beautiful Lisbon
8:14
So we're in this neighborhood called Barrio Alto and it is super famous for nightlife
8:36
so the streets like here get packed with people, bar hopping, and it's a super popular neighborhood
8:41
during the day. There's a lot of local restaurants here so we're at this place called Adega da
8:47
Cabro and in here they serve traditional Portuguese food and it's like all home
8:52
groups like locally owned. It's very nice and it's like the best way that we can
8:55
have like our last lunch in Portugal. It's very sad. I'm gonna miss the food here a
9:04
lot and everything about Boca. And we forgot to mention that they have special menus for lunch, so this dish, a drink and
9:22
coffee is for 90 euros. That's quite the deal. Coupon stuff Coupon stuff Quick errands I so nervous Quick Garen if you guys have been following for a while you know that we always shop for a magnet and a coffee mug every country that we go to
9:44
And we just found the Portugal one. It has to be handmade, locally made, all that stuff
9:49
So cute! We have one more fun thing that you for sure have to do when visiting Lisbon and I cannot
10:24
think of a better way to say goodbye to this amazing country
10:31
We are ending our five weeks in Portugal with a night of fado music and if you don't know what
10:35
fado music is that means you didn't watch our video about Coimbra and shame on you for not
10:39
watching that video. Very much just kidding but fado is like an essential part of the Lisbon
10:44
experience. It's basically a genre of music that was invented here by like fishermen's wives who
10:48
were like missing their husbands that just like went out to sea to go fishing or like part of the
10:52
Age of Discovery so they created songs of like longing and they're super sad and melancholic
10:57
and it's an essential part of Lisbon so enjoy Fado Music and so that doesn't have a translation to English but it means like a longing for something that you like miss like from the past
11:34
and this is kind of sad but at the same time like the perfect way to say goodbye to Portugal
11:40
I know like we're gonna feel a lot of so that Portugal
11:45
it was an amazing travel series we had so much fun we hope you guys enjoyed it
11:50
and yeah we will I'm gonna link it here so you guys can check it out if you want to see other Portugal videos
11:55
and we will see you in the next country Portugal, thank you
11:59
We love you. We'll be back. Thank you. Thank you for watching. Bye. Chauzinho
12:07
Chauzinho, Portugal. Chauzinho. We love you. Thank you. Your thing, though. So that
12:15
for Portugal Call me to be myself. You? Take yourself down
